The Rufous-fronted tailorbird (orthotomus frontalis) is another Philippine endemic found here on Siargao Island.
They are active birds that flit around quickly and can be hard to photograph; this one paused for a few moments just in front of our chicken coops and I was able to snap some quick shots this morning.
The Rufous-fronted tailorbird’s range includes Samar, Calicoan, Biliran, Leyte, Bohol, Dinagat, Siargao and Mindanao. It feeds on insects.
Yesterday I observed this Rufous-fronted tailorbird from my bedroom window:
That’s a good sign that we’ll be seeing more of this tailorbird and it’s nestlings in the near future!
