Purple Heron in Flight
While it’s not uncommon to see the purple heron (Ardea purpurea) flying singly around the island, getting a shot in flight remains a challenge for me. Yesterday while approaching a pond near San Isidro, I inadvertently flushed this purple heron along with a few wandering whistling ducks. The latter took off too fast for me to photograph but this lumbering purple heron was easier to capture on camera, even if the results are less than ideal.
Update: June 11th. This purple heron flew over our yard just before sunset. Getting a little closer to a clear image:
