Lolo’s Taco Surfer Cantina @ Pacifico Beach
Today was the opening of Lolo’s Taco, a self-described Surfer Cantina located on the main drag of barangay Pacifico here on Siargao island so we thought we’d go check it out!
Zé Lo relocated to Siargao not so long ago from Saint Barthelemy in the Caribbean. He’s a great guy to get to know (and plays a killer ukulele!)
We’d been waiting patiently for the opening, especially since the roasted pig and beer blessing party the weekend before last. But this morning just before lunchtime Zé Lo came zipping up to our place on his motorcycle and announced that they’re now open for business and invited us down to the beach to be his first customers.
The menu right now includes both fish tacos and (pork) tacos al pastor. We enjoyed them both and the tacos with crispy-fried locally-caught fish seemed to be everyone’s favorite. I could eat those all afternoon!
In addition to the usual soft-drinks and beer they are featuring horchata, a popular Mexican beverage made from (I think) rice, vanilla, and cinnamon. We’ll have to try that on our next visit.
Anita from Hungary made some really tasty (and addictive!) donuts for dessert and Zé Lo brewed us some cups of strong Mindanao coffee. I imagine this will be popular with the early morning surfers as Lolo’s Taco opens early at 7 A.M. There’s some talk of breakfast burritos as well on the soon-to-expand menu.
After a quick tour of the well-outfitted kitchen we stepped back in front to see the one communal table already filling up with tourists…
Pacifico is a small one-road village and Lolo’s Taco Surfer Cantina is easy enough to find. It’s located next to Wemar’s Surf Shop and just a few steps from Jafe Surf and Sail Camp Resort.
Congrats on your opening day Zé Lo and Anita!
