Another species to add in our list of the birds can be easily found here on Siargao Island. Consequently, it is familiar to everyone on the island. The Collared kingfisher is locally called “takray”. Other English names are White-collared kingfisher and Mangrove kingfisher.

This noisy medium-sized kingfisher can be easily spotted on tree branches and electrical lines across the island. In addition to small fish, it eats crabs and other crustaceans as well as lizards, frogs, insects and even small snakes.
